The Hardin County Clerk’s Office announced the winners of its 2021 Design a Plate competition on Monday.
The License Plate Decorating Contest was created to lighten the atmosphere of the Hardin County Clerk’s Office. The winners were selected for the most colorful, the most unique and the most creative.
“We just wanted to do something fun where young and old can learn what our office actually does,” said Hardin County Clerk Debbie Donnelly.
8-year-old Adair Worth won the most colorful award; Callie Hornback, 20, was the winner of the Most Unique and Savannah Kinney, 7, the winner of the Most Creative.
The winning designs will be on display at the Hardin County Clerk’s Office.
Donnelly said the idea for the competition came from Assistant Clerk Ashley McMurtry and COO Michael Vannoy.
According to McMurtry, they had around 50 submissions.
“We were amazed at the talent of everyone who submitted a design,” she said. McMurtry said two assistant clerks were responsible for deciding the winners. “It was a very difficult decision.”
This was the office’s first year running a Design a Plate competition. Donnelly praised the response they received, calling it “a very good turnout.” This competition was not a sanctioned plaque design competition to replace official plaques.
While they don’t have another event like this currently planned, McMurtry said they hope to offer more activities in the future.
“The goal is to have activities to allow the community to learn more about the services offered by our office,” she said.
McMurtry encouraged the community to follow the Hardin County Clerk’s Office Facebook page for not only more activities they may have in the future, but also more information about their services.
